Tim DiMarco has been with Airbus DS Communications for 11 years. Ask him what is most rewarding about what he does and he says without hesitation, "It allows me to make a difference in the communities we serve."
Tim serves PSAPs and communities big and small across the western U.S. They span as far north as the three-position agency in Barrow, Alaska, and down the coast to larger communities like San Diego and Spokane. He knows, first hand, how unique the needs are for each PSAP.
"Larger PSAPs have dedicated Calltakers, Dispatchers, IT Departments and Supervisors. Smaller PSAPs don’t always have the personnel, but their role is no less important," says Tim. "In fact, their needs are great because they have to do it all."
As a champion for all customers, including his 2-10 position PSAPs, Tim is committed to providing the tools, services and solutions they need.

As far as Tim is concerned, each PSAP’s needs are big. For him, safety obviously has no size.
Becky Stewart knows first-hand the challenges 2-10 position PSAPs face because she lived it. She started her career in Public Safety as a Dispatcher and then became Director for a six-PSAP regional system in Texas. That was 35 years ago, and for the last eight, we've had the fortune of having her on the Airbus DS Communications team. In her role as champion for PSAPs, Becky is passionate that all PSAPs – no matter the size – have the technology and support to protect their neighbors, friends and families.
"Calltakers are there to provide a service to their community. And in smaller PSAPs, it's usually personal because you know the person calling 9-1-1. They may be a family member or neighbor or friend. And often these small PSAPs do it all – taking 9-1-1 calls, booking people into jail, sounding the tornado alarms, taking payments for a ticket. All their various responsibilities make it especially critical they process their 9-1-1 calls at the same level of quality as a PSAP with 40 positions."
If you ask Becky the biggest challenge facing smaller PSAPs, she'll give it to you straight. "It's three things – funding, funding, funding. A police chief has to buy vests, guns and cars. So their limited dollars have to be stretched very far. And that's one reason why I'm excited we can offer the VESTA® 9-1-1 Essentials system. It has the same functionality as our VESTA 9-1-1 solution, but it’s built to address the funding and network monitoring needs of 2-10 position PSAPs. With VESTA 9-1-1 Essentials, a small PSAP is assured of the same level of functionality as Los Angeles or New York City, for example. That's pretty powerful."
When it comes to Next Generation, Becky helps her customers be confident. "We've you covered and are here to ensure you are on the right path. I make sure the customers I serve have the ability to easily keep up with the crowd and start taking advantage of next generation features today."
Travis Bottiglier has been working in Public Safety for 20 years, joining Airbus DS Communications 14 years ago. He works with PSAPs across the East Coast, especially in rural communities. He knows their managers and directors wear many hats and work incredibly hard to fulfill the many responsibilities needed in 2-10 position centers. As a champion, he's committed to providing tailored solutions so that they can worry less and serve more.
"All 9-1-1 centers are there to help people. And the small PSAPs are doing it will less. The fact is they have challenges the larger PSAPs don't always have – like funding and having to go for grants; staffing, many have a high level of turnover. Bottom line is, they have to do the same with less. Just because you're small doesn't mean you are doing anything less than the big guys."
